Mutinta Hair Salon – Northmead Area
Interview with Constance & Mutinta
Found Constance busy doing mukele to a little girl. She looked absolutely gorgeous when she was done.
Constance has been a hair dresser for 4 years. She has been operating in Northmead for 10 months and so far she is enjoying it and doing well.
BWZ: What made you start being a hair dresser?
Constance: I wanted to be independent
BWZ: How did you learn to do hair and braiding?
Constance: I taught myself just by looking at different people plaiting
BWZ: What is your speciality in the hair dressing business?
Constance: I specialise in mukele, I enjoy doing it and I like being creative with mukele. She says this with such a smile on her face.
BWZ: What type of braids do you do?
Constance: I can do Twist, Rasta, Box Braid, and all types of weaves
BWZ: In your opinion what are you known for?
Constance: Definitely mukele
BWZ: What type of clientele do you have and what type of clientele do you attract?
Constance: I have customers coming from Choma, Livingstone, and the Copperbelt, most of them are from low to middle class and they bring their children and grandchildren for me to plait them.
BWZ: Do you offer specials and promotions sometimes
Constance: No we don’t because we are already very reasonable
BWZ: In your opinion what is the trend in mukele?
Constance: Moho hair style is the very common in our days.
Constance is a very shy and Mutinta is even shier. They run this tiny place just the two of them. It’s a decent place in the market and they offer value for money braiding services. The interview was done in local language although the ladies do understand English very well.
